One Jet At A Time:
Still a competition?
We'll find out later on, but for now, Geno Smith has been ruled out of tonight's game vs the Jags.
Smith rolled his ankle on the turf in Detriot, during the Jets' first preseason game. Since, Smith had been playing with a noticiable limp in practices, and had a 3 INT day, which Rex Ryan called "brutal."
If Smith wasn't healthy enough to start, he shouldn't have been healthy enough to play, so it shouldn't appear too one-sided of a call, on anybody's part.
The 'Other' QBs
Greg McElroy has also been a little 'gimpy' in practices, as NYP's Brian Costello described it, but is active for tonight. Still, with Mark Sanchez playing all of the first half, Matt Simms may be the Jets' QB for the third and fourth quarters, with McElroy playing an emergency role.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Mark Sanchez is close to winning the Jets quarterback battle against rookie Geno Smith.
According to Mehta, Jets GM John Idzik is trying his best to help Geno Smith become the starting quarterback for the team, but he’s right on the verge of losing that battle. It looks as though Mark Sanchez might keep his starting QB position...
I GOT THIS
Though it looked like Geno Smith would take the Jets starting job, the latest report says Mark Sanchez is pulling ahead in the race.
Nick Saban can’t be too happy, but Rex Ryan must be ecstatic.
Geno Smith was arrested on Saturday night. Only it’s not the Geno Smith your probably thinking of.
Smith, a sophomore cornerback at Alabama and not the New York Jets rookie quarterback, was arrested and charged with a DUI late Saturday night, according to Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News.

Rex Ryan was the loyal company man once again during a 10-minute conference call with reporters Thursday refusing to admit the obvious: Mark Sanchez is closing in on the Week 1 starting job entering the second preseason game against...

It wasn't quite "brutal" -- the word Jets coach Rex Ryan used to
describe a Geno Smith practice earlier this week -- but Mark
Sanchez by no means locked up the starting quarterback job with his
performance in New York’s 37-13 win over the
Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night.
As bad as Mark Sanchez has looked this preseason, the New York Jets will likely go with Sanchez as their week one starter over rookie Geno Smith, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

The Jets’ quarterback bout will head into round three. Mark Sanchez couldn’t deliver a knockout punch in the team’s second preseason game keeping the door open for Geno Smith to fight again in the third preseason game against the Giants.
Smith’s stock likely improved without taking a snap as he sat on the sideline Saturday night with his injured ankle while Sanchez played...
After a ‘brutal’ outing, as New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan put it, yesterday by second-round Draft pick Geno Smith, it’s not surprising that the sideline boss chose the safe option and announced Mark Sanchez will get the start for his second straight preseason game. The decision to start Sanchez under center against the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday night in the Meadowlands...
The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to New York to meet the hapless Jets in week two of the preseason. The Jaguars enter the game with even less expectations than the Jets. Only the Jaguars do it with much less national scrutiny. No one believes either team will make it pass the regular season. Neither team is loaded with fantasy football potential. One team is starting with a...
