The Ravens made their first move in free agency, but it wasn’t really a move at all.
The team announced in a press release that they and center Matt Birk agreed to a three-year contract, pending a physical.
Birk, a 15-year veteran, has started every game for the Ravens since arriving in Baltimore in 2009.
The veteran is seen as a vital cog in Baltimore’s offensive line.
“One of the things we said earlier this offseason is that we were going to focus attention on the offensive line, and getting Matt Birk back is key for us,” general manager Ozzie Newsome said. ““He is a top player, his intelligence is obvious, and he is a leader on and off the field.”
