Now that the NFLPA and NFL owners are finished hugging it out for the cameras, the business of football is swinging into action. Given the accelerated timeline for free agency and training camps, NFL front offices are already scrambling into action as we speak, and the Ravens are no exception. According to Ravens Insider and National Football Post beat writer Aaron Wilson, both running back Willis McGahee and nose tackle Kelly Gregg have been informed by general manager Ozzie Newsome that they will be released this week. Cutting the pair will save the Ravens close to $9 million against the cap, freeing them to make other moves as needed. Given McGahee’s age (29) and injury history, it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to get a significant contract on the open market, but he should be able to latch on to a new club sooner or later, albeit at a more reasonable price than the $2.5 million he would have cost Baltimore to keep him.
