NFL Trade Rumors:
Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports that the Ravens have already ”expressed interest” in free agent DE Dwight Freeney.
La Canfora mentions that Baltimore is still in the market for pass-rusher, but only at the “right price.” League sources have informed him that Elvis Dumervil remains the Ravens’ “top target.”
There are a few issues with this idea. First, Dumervil has said that he would prefer to re-sign with the Broncos, who reportedly already have a new offer out to him. Second, Freeney struggled in his first year as a 3-4 outside linebacker, so it’s really not the best fit for his skill set. The Ravens could always make some adjustments to better utilize him, but it just doesn’t seem like the best fit.
Freeney has been mentioned as a speculative option for the Broncos and Patriots as well.

BEST OF MAXIM
The Indianapolis Colts parted ways with their most prolific pass rusher in Dwight Freeney, because the 3-4 defense simply doesn’t fit his skill set. However that means the Colts will have to find a 3-4 edge rusher in the 2013 NFL draft that can make Robert Mathis’ job easier next season.
So let’s take a look at what the Colts’ 3-4 edge rusher options are, and see if the Colts...

The Patriots had both Dwight Freeney and John Abraham in for visits on Friday, both could greatly help the Patriots defense, but neither have signed and both are moving on.

Free agent defensive end Elvis Dumervil will see what the
rest of the market has to offer after being less than pleased with the contract
proposal he recently received from the Denver Broncos. While the Broncos remain

So how do these free agent defensive ends compare? Let’s break it down –

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there’s a chance free agent wide receiver Julian Edelman could end up re-signing with the New England Patriots.

The Denver Broncos want Elvis Dumervil to return to the fold, but just in case he doesn’t, the team is trying to secure plan A and B.

The New England Patriots had Adrian Wilson, John Abraham, and Dwight Freeney come for visits, and the only one to come out with a contract that has a signature on it is Adrian Wilson. In addition, Elvis Dumervil's contract never went through, so he is a free agent. The final big name defensive end available is Osi Umenyiora (who I wrote about signing a while ago).
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with free agent safety Ed Reed.
