Ravens wide receiver and kick returner Jacoby Jones' role is expected to expand going forward after an encouraging performance during his return from a sprained right knee. Jones displayed speed and elusiveness during the Ravens' 19-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. He caught an 11-yard touchdown pass and recorded a 31-yard reception on the other pass thrown to him. "It was great" Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "Jacoby gave us a speed element out there and he'll probably play more and more offensively as we go forward." It was Jones' first game back since damaging his medial collateral ligament in the season-opener against the Denver Broncos when rookie safety Brynden Trawick accidentally ran into him while he was executing a fair catch. Jones also returned four kickoffs for 102 yards including a long return of 35 yards. "I was so anxious" Jones said. "I hadn't played in a month. They just gave me the opportunit...

Former Ravens C Matt Birk wants to be a model, down 75 pounds

You might remember the dude on the left in the photo above. That's former 310-pound Ravens center Matt Birk who retired after helping Baltimore win the Super Bowl last season. That dude was a big man because well in order to play on an NFL offensive line you need plenty of meat on you. The guy on the right you know him as well. That's also former Ravens center Matt Birk...

Ravens Injury Report: Linebackers Josh Bynes And Albert McClellan Still Sidelined Thursday

The Baltimore Ravens Thursday injury report is now out and for a second straight day, linebacker Josh Bynes (thigh, finger) and linebacker Albert McClellan (shoulder) both failed to practice. Wide receiver Brandon Stokley (thigh) went backwards on Thursday as he failed to practice after working fully on Wednesday. This will be something to watch for on Friday. Cornerback Chykie Brown...

Ravens Injury Report: Marcus Spears And Terrence Cody Both Could Be Back This Week

The Baltimore Ravens have released their first injury report for the week as they prepare to play the Pittsburgh Steelers this coming Sunday at Heinz Field. Linebacker Josh Bynes (thigh, finger), defensive end Chris Canty (thigh) and linebacker Albert McClellan (shoulder) all failed to practice Wednesday.  Bynes has an infection in his finger, according to Ravens head coach John...

Baltimore Ravens: 2013 Week 7 NFL Power Rankings (#12)

Last week: 12 (+0) Record: 3-3 Despite the loss of veteran leaders Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, the Ravens have not missed a beat defensively. The value of Lewis and Reed was mostly intangible towards the end of their time with the Ravens, as they became ineffective on the field. Guys like Daryl Smith and James Ihedigbo have filled their voids very well and the return to full health for...

Steelers Primer – Week 7 – vs. Baltimore ravens

(Author’s note: I never capitalize “ravens” unless it appears at the beginning of a sentence. Get over it, ravens fans.) The dark cloud that has hung over the Steel city, and the entirety of Steeler Nation, since Dec. 30, 2012 has been lifted. In case you didn’t know, that was the last time the Steelers won a football game of any kind. That’s a very long time. Too long...

Game Balls and Goats: A.J. Hawk sinks talons into Baltimore Ravens

And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for! It’s time for the weekly NFC North and NFC South Game Balls and Goats awards ceremony. Well, actually, it’s just the NFC North Game Balls and Goats this week. In what is perhaps a reflection of just how poor the NFC South has looked so far […]The post Game Balls and Goats: A.J. Hawk sinks talons into Baltimore Ravens by...

Harbaugh disagrees with Rodgers, has no problem with Elam's hit

Just before the half of last Sunday's Packers-Ravens game Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers connected with wideout Randall Cobb who was promptly tackled by Baltimore safety Matt Elam. The problem and it's one we've seen countless times since the league began cracking down on head shots: Elam went low on Cobb who suffered a fractured fibula and could be out 6-8 weeks...

Source: Packers WR Randall Cobb to miss 6-8 weeks

Wide receiver Randall Cobb suffered a fractured fibula in Green Bay's 19-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens and will miss 6-8 weeks a source said Monday. The third-year wide receiver left Sunday's game in the first half after absorbing a low tackle from Baltimore's Matt Elam. He left the game later returning on crutches. The source indicated that Cobb nearly broke the...

Grading the Ravens using PFF metrics...

So you had a bad day against Green Bay...how bad was it? How do you measure "bad" besides just going by the final score? Garrett Downing at the Ravens' NFL.com site pulled out the individual grades given to each player by the Pro Football Focus people. The coaches use a grading system which is similar to PFF's. Note: PFF grades each individual player...

Ravens Must Fix Run Game if They're Going to Contend

But at 3-3, it's also fair to say they aren't a great team either. The Cincinnati Bengals have looked the part of AFC North favorites all year and now they have a one game lead over the Ravens. Despite being defending Super Bowl Champions, there's really no strong evidence to indicate that the Ravens are a sure bet to even make the playoffs this year. Really for the...

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers: 2013 Week 7 NFL Pick

Baltimore Ravens (3-3) at Pittsburgh Steelers (1-4) I’ll admit I was pretty surprised when I saw the Steelers were favorites by 2.5 points here against the Ravens, which essentially suggests these two teams are even. However, it just seems like the odds makers think the Steelers are significantly better than their record. They were right about it last week, as the Steelers ended...

Steelers and Ravens Meet As Underacheivers for First Time

The first Steelers Ravens game is on the horizon, and both teams are in a strange position neither are used to: underachieving. The Ravens hold second place right now at 3-3 and the Steelers are 1-4 and in last place. I can assure you that this situation only only adds to the palpable hate between these franchises (and fanbases). What is true about the Steelers and their momentum...

Ravens-Steelers Preview

While the Baltimore Ravens are looking to solve the problems that have contributed to their poor start, the Pittsburgh Steelers hope another win can provide a springboard to their turnaround. The defending Super Bowl champion Ravens will try to avoid their worst seven-game start in eight years Sunday when they visit a Pittsburgh team looking to continue to emerge from the franchise...
