Historically, when we look back at the Baltimore Ravens triumphant march through the 2013 playoffs en route to their high drama victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, we will make one important parallel with the franchise’s first and only other Super Bowl trip back in 2001 as follows:  In each of four consecutive playoff games culminating with the grandest showcase in all of sports, national consensus sided with the opposing team and not the Ravens as the favorite to win.Twelve years ago this was largely explained by the fact that the Ravens were not equipped with a high powered offense, and even though they entered the playoffs winners of seven straight, surely without the ability to score points in a hurry or march down the field in the fourth quarter to tie a game, their favorable bounces and reliance on defense would have to reach an inevitable breaking point.Despite this overwhelming national line of thought, that inevitable breaking point was never reached. ...

If San Francisco return man Ted Ginn Jr. broke into the clear on the game’s final play, he wanted his teammates to be prepared. “If he starts to break it, go tackle him,” Flacco told Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta on the sidelines, as overheard by NFL Films microphones. “I don’t know...

Ravens Debating Which Franchise Tag To Apply To Joe Flacco?

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun writes that the Ravens are ”debating between” applying the exclusive-rights franchise tag or non-exclusive tag to QB Joe Flacco this offseason. There’s a difference of almost $6 million between the two designations and the exclusive tag assures Baltimore that Flacco will be back next season. If they were to apply the non-exclusive tag...

is Joe Flacco elite? No!

The biggest buzz word in football the last couple years is “elite.” Michael Kay asked Eli Manning if he thought he was elite and Eli said “yeah, I do.” Then he went on to win the Super Bowl MVP for the second time. Right after that radio interview, Joe Flacco said that he was elite, too. Two years later he won his first Super Bowl and now many people want to say that Joe...

That is the opinion of Joe Flacco’s agent anyway. Who can argue with him when the stats are added up? Where do the Ravens go from here?

Obviously once a team wins the Super Bowl, their goal is to repeat the next season. However, a tight cap situation may make that goal difficult for the Ravens heading into the 2013 season. The top priority for Baltimore this offseason is to get Joe Flacco under contract, whether that’s with the franchise tag or a long-term deal. After that, the goal is to get enough talent around...

Is It Next Year Already? Super Bowl XLVIII Prediction

Super Bowl 47 had it all, didn’t it? Everything except Joe Flacco declaring that he’s going to f**kin’ Disney World. At least CBS didn’t pick that up on its field microphones. There’s even a rumor that the power outage was deliberate, an attempt to give San Francisco a chance to regroup, comeback and maybe even cover the spread. And, it didn’t take a replacement ref to...

Anquan Boldin Could Be Ravens Cap Casualty, Which Should Attrack Interest From Patriots

Joe Flacco won the MVP award for Super Bowl XLVII, but Anquan Boldin was the hero who made it happen. Boldin caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown to help the Ravens win the big game. But even with his impressive contributions, the reliable receiver seems unlikely to return to Baltimore next season. The Ravens’ obligations for next year put them $5 million over the salary...
