After the Baltimore Ravens defeated the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, Wes Welker’s wife took to Facebook to blow off some steam. She did so in the form of ripping Ray Lewis for not being a very good role model. Anna Burns Welker later regretted what she posted, and she issued an apology to Lewis and the Ravens for the things she said. On Monday, Lewis said he accepts. “I’ve always been a firm believer of the Good Book, and the Good Book always confirms, even a fool is counted wise until he opens he or she mouth,” Lewis told reporters, via ESPNBoston.com. “And sometimes people just say silly stuff. And they say it out of emotion. And sometimes you need to let the game take care of the game. We lost up there last year, and I didn’t hear one teammate say anything about nobody there because we have respect for that team, that they won it fair and square. “So for her to come out and say what she said, listen, I truly forgive her, and I have no hard feelings against her at all, but I believe people just make mistakes and say foolish things sometimes.” Some of the things Burns Welker said may be factually inaccurate, but a lot of people agree with what she wrote. The NFL has painted Lewis as a hero and a role model, and there are far better role models in football. But as Gisele Bundchen will tell you, sometimes it’s better for the wives to remain quiet than to make comments their husbands are going to have to deal with.
