Veteran running back Ryan Grant is scheduled to visit the Detroit Lions this weekend with the Packers showing little interest in bringing the unrestricted free agent back to Green Bay. The Lions' murky depth chart, topped by Jahvid Best (concussions) and Mikel Leshoure (marijuna arrest; possible suspension), includes only injury-prone veteran Kevin Smith as the one sure thing. Grant also visited the Patriots. He could be effective in a rotation but hasn't shown the same burst through the line of scrimmage or speed he did in 2008 and 2009, when he posted back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons. Grant played in only one game in 2010 and has 143 carries in the past two seasons. The Packers are content using James Starks as the lead running back in a rotation that would also include 2011 third-round pick Alex Green (Hawaii), who is recovered from an ACL tear as a rookie. The Packers' running back depth comes from a collection of undrafted free agents, including former Ohio...

Woodson a full-time safety? Sounds likely

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- If Charles Woodson begins next season as a starting safety for the Packers, it will just be the next step of a transition that's already been in progress. Last season, though Woodson continued to be listed at cornerback -- the position he's played throughout his entire 14-year NFL career -- he got a lot of snaps at other defensive positions. "There...

Ryan Grant Considering Lions

Running back Ryan Grant is considering joining the Detroit Lions, according to ESPN Wisconsin. Fantasy Spin: Detroit needs depth in their RB stable with Jahvid Best coming off a 2011 campaign spoiled by numerous concussions, and Mikel Leshoure coming off a torn Achilles and being arrested for marijuana possession earlier this year. This would be a good landing spot as he would have...

Will Lions defense improve in 2012?

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The last time we saw the Detroit Lions defense, it wasn't a pretty picture. The Lions were getting picked apart by Green Bay reserve quarterback Matt Flynn in the final regular-season game and then New Orleans Drew Brees in the playoffs. Detroit allowed 45 points in both of those losses. Flynn passed for 480 yards and six touchdowns. Brees went for 466...
