Reggie Bush is now a Detroit Lion after signing a four-year deal worth $16 million, but the Dolphins never approached him with an offer, Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reports.
Its just the nature of the business. You have to have a thick skin, Bush said Saturday while fulfilling his final Dolphins-related obligation, an appearance at Wayne Akers Ford. Its an ugly side that sometimes we all dont like, but we all have to face it some time.
Bush, 28, had 2,660 yards from scrimmage and 15 touchdowns in two seasons, and openly campaigned last season to stay in Miami. But the Lions offered him an opportunity to be their every-down back, and the Dolphins didnt make a counteroffer.
As a competitor and as an athlete we take a little pride, and hopefully a team we just played with would want to bring us back, he said. But obviously it didnt work that way.
Bush said he is happy that he no longer is in limbo, especially with he and his fiancée expecting a baby daughter late next month.
This is my first time being a free agent, so everything I went through was brand new for me, Bush said. It kind of weighed on me a little bit, just because I wanted to find a home.
I think where Im at now is a really good fit for me, Bush said. I think we can do a lot of damage with this offense.
But Bush will also have fond memories of his two years with the Dolphins, even though they went 13-19.
I enjoyed the loyal fans that showed up every Sunday, no matter what our record was, he said. I enjoyed playing for Mr. Ross and getting to experience Miami Dolphin football.

Detroit Lions: Greatest Show on Turf 2.0?
I spent the first half of the 2012 NFL season covering the Lions for Bleacher Report. During that time, I watched a team that just one season earlier looked like it was on the verge of great things collapse in the midst of off-field distractions and on-field shortcomings.
Perhaps the greatest of those shortcomings was the uncertainty at the running back position. It took a while...

The Detroit Lions have a productive start to NFL free agency
It is not always true that the Detroit Lions make great decision is NFL free agency.
