Ready for Takeoff!!!

The New York Jets are coming! Those were Rex Ryan's words at his press conference when he was first hired and introduced to our area. Well if the league didn't get the message then, they must have surely got it by now. The Jets absolutely manhandled the Houston Texans yesterday 24-7 in Houston. The defense was absolutely stiffling. They put pressure on from the very first play of the first series and hit Matt Schaub right away to rattle him. Kris Jenkins was throwing around the Texans' offensive lineman like they were rag dolls. Bart Scott and David Harris were providing devastating hits on anyone within ten yards. Darelle Revis limited one of the best recievers in the gagme to a very pedestrian afternoon. They pitched a shutout against a team that was scoring 25 points per game at home last year. Brian Schottenheimer did an excellent job of utilizing Leon Washington. I have been saying for years, just give him a minimum of 15 touches a game and you can't loose. Well he was a focal point of the offense from the very beginning and even lined up for a few direct snaps from the "Seminole" formation. With him getting enough touches yesterday to keep the defense honest, it was only a matter of time until TJ broke through for some big gains. In the fourth quarter, he did just that. Lastly, Mark Sanchez had one of the best opening day performances by a rookie ever going 18-31 for 272 yards and a touchdown. He was absolutely clutch on third downs throwing for 192 of his yardage totals then. He showed the poise and moxie that will have other teams' defensive co-ordinators scrambling to come up with ways to game plan against him. This is not just any rookie that you can expect to throw a blitz at to rattle. He has consistently shown that he will look downfield, scramble to keep the play alive and throw accurately. On one key third down conversion, he fell backwards "Matrix" style between two defenders and threw a dart off his back foot to keep the drive alive. Even after throwing the pass that gave Houston it's only points, he bounced right back and hit Dustin Keller for a thirty yard strike which set up the Thomas Jones 38 yard scamper for the final score. Tonight's game between Buffalo and New England will be huge with the Patriots coming to town next week on a shortened week. I suspect that the Jets will give Belichek's team fits with the speed of the defense. While he is a Pro-Bowl caliber player, it will be too much for Brady's knee to handle, after he was out of action for a whole year. They will hit him early and often and really screw up his timing and delivery. This is provided the team makes it to the Meadowlands next week without any major injuries tonight. The team played with heart and passion yesterday and the whole league is taking notice. The New York Jets are coming, so watch out!
