Over the last year, we?ve seen both the Mariners and the Huskies finish last place in their divisions.

At least we know the Seahawks won?t have to suffer the same fate.

After losing close game after close game, the Hawks finally pulled one out, defeating the St. Louis Rams 23-20. Seattle trailed 17-7 at the half and 20-13 with three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. But then went on to score 10 points in the final 2:47 to pull out a victory.
The game really showed how far Seattle has dropped. In years past, games between these two NFC West rivals have decided who won the conference. Now, they decide who avoids the basement.
Look at the bright side: at least we?re not in last. Seattle likely averted finishing in the basement by continuing their dominance of St. Louis, against whom they won their 8th straight. The Seahawks, who destroyed St. Louis 37-13 earlier this season, improved to 3-11 while the Ram?s went to 2-12.
It was a game of ups and downs for the Seahawks. The game started out sloppy, with two fumbles in the first half for each team. Seattle couldn?t get anything going offensively in the first half, totaling only 76 yards.
But Seneca Wallace looked much better in the second half, leading four scoring drives to win the game. His receivers looked solid but not spectacular. Deion Branch continued his strong production, finishing with 5 catches for 76 yards. John Carlson showed he can consistently catch balls for Seattle by also finishing with 5 catches for 76. Engram, too, showed he is still a weapon.
The offensive line, however, looked confused all game. They were never really able to protect Wallace, who was sacked three times, and was forced to scramble and throw the ball away many times. They could never really pick up the blitz throughout the game. This was acceptable, though, because the offensive line was starting four back-ups.
On defense, Seattle got ran over by Steven Jackson the whole first half. They were not able to close down the back side, and Jackson destroyed them with cutbacks. But in the second half, they were able to stop the running game better and thus held them to three points.
It seemed that all corners not named Marcus Trufant got picked on the entire game. If the Rams had single coverage, they would just throw it up to their receiver who would most of the time make the catch. Jennings is not the answer at cornerback, but I think Josh Wilson will develop into a solid DB the Seahawks.
In all, the game was a feel good win that broke a six-game losing streak. However, it also showed how bad the Seahawks have become and how much they need to do before next year.
