Issac Redman was named the starter for week one, but Jonathan Dwyer was the running back who provided the most promise for the Steelers physical running style. Mike Tomlin saw what the rest of us did; Dwyer looked for contact, and won many battles with defenders. He had 11 touches for 54 yards (Redman has 13 for 27), and Tomlin told the media today that Dwyer will see an “increased workload” against the Jets this weekend. Those totals were deflated by a penalty that brought back his longest gain and a TD that was reversed via replay.
With Rashard Mendenhall likely out of action again, Dwyer is the fantasy running back for your team. Expecting a CJ Spiller like performance is foolish, as many of his yards came in garbage time. But the Jets defense does excel against the pass, and with the ground and pound mentality of the Steelers, he should be considered a flex play in most leagues.

Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer didn't practice Wednesday due to a foot injury, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.Fantasy Spin:Dwyer was Pittsburgh's leading rusher in Week 1 and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Dwyer has earned an increased role due to the performance. Even though Rashard Mendenhall reportedly practiced fully Wednesday...
Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer was the team's leading rusher in Week 1, earning 23 more yards than Isaac Redman on two less carries.Fantasy Spin:Dwyer averaged 4.8 ypc to Redman's 1.8, finishing with 43 yards on nine carries. Redman had 20 yards on 11 carries, and both players had two catches. Neither is much of a fantasy option.
I have already posted my notes from the first half of the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-19 loss Sunday night to the Denver Broncos and below are my second half notes.
Ben Roethlisberger throws behind Jonathan Dwyer on first play of the second half. Had it been caught it would of gone for good yardage.
... and there is our Willie Colon false start. Luckily Roethlisberger converts the...

It’s been a long, long time.
Eight seasons to be exact.
The year was 2003, and it was the last time the Pittsburgh Steelers finished a regular season with a losing record. That season, with the fragile Tommy Maddox at the helm, the Steelers limped into the offseason with a 6-10 record. Since that time, the Steelers have enjoyed an era of excellence marked...
The Pittsburgh Steelers gambled on Mike Adams in the 2nd round of the draft, taking a chance on a guy who never lived up to lofty expectations at Ohio State and who failed a drug test at the combine.
So far, it’s a gamble that hasn’t paid off. Adams was forced into action when Marcus Gilbert went down with an injury early in the Steelers Sunday night loss in Denvar. One the third...
One of the best called plays Sunday night in the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-19 loss to the Denver Broncos was the 3rd down and goal touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to tight end Heath Miller at the end of the first half.
Normally I like to telestrate plays, but the animated gif along with the still shots from the all-22 tape show you all you need to know about the play without...
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall fully participated in practice on Wednesday.
So it’s not just Adrian Peterson: Steelers said RB Rashard Mendenhall was a full participant in today’s practice.

Mendenhall practiced last week, but was inactive for last Sunday’s loss to the Broncos.
The weight room in the indoor field house at Kent State University will soon be named after Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison.
A donation of 100,000 will do that.
Harrison, an Akron, Ohio native who played at Kent State before embarking upon a unique, winding NFL journey that's taken him from street free agent to NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had his 100,000...
TheRedZone.org pointed out a big mistake the replacement officials made in Sunday night’s Steelers – Broncos match up.
No matter how much the NFL tries to mask it, the replacement officials continue to struggle.
Another case in point from last night’s Broncos 31-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Peyton Manning and the Broncos scored a touchdown late in the fourth...
N.Y. Jets at Pittsburgh Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET, at Heinz Field, Pittsburgh - TV: CBS; DirecTV: 715 *TV announcers: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms *Keys to the game: How long Mark Sanchez put his critics to bed with an outstanding Week 1 performance depends on how he follows it up against a much more imposing Pittsburgh defense on the road. Among the encouraging signs was three combined...
Mike Prisuta talked to those who would be Hines Ward this Sunday:
Below are the offensive player, play counts and participation chart for the Pittsburgh Steelers week 1 game against the Denver Broncos.
The play count totals do not include the no-play calls due to penalties. We are now posting the personnel groupings separate.
Wide receiver Mike Wallace nearly played every snap which is a good sign that the coaching staff...
Just yesterday there was talk that current second string running back Jonathan Dwyer was set to receive more carries it seems that game plan might be put into question. Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall was a full go at practice on Wednesday, this according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Mendenhall was last years starting running [...]
