The Other Paper:
Washington Redskins defensive tackle Barry Cofield got the chance to see how elite New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning had become from the sidelines when they played as teammates for five years.
Since last season, the former Giant player has had the reverse angle on how good Manning is from the opposite side of the ball wearing the Giants division rival's burgundy and yellow.
Yesterday, Cofield was witness to another fourth-quarter Manning comeback when Easy E hit Victor Cruz on a 77-yard bomb with 1:13 left to give the Giants a wild 27-23 victory over the 'Skins. Too bad it was from the losing side's perspective.
After the game, Cofield paid his props and elevated Manning's elite status to another level when he placed him in the same company of the former San Francisco 49ers great Joe Montana.
"Eli is like Joe Montana right now," said Cofield. "When I was here, he was good, showing flashes, he's exceptional right now. He's got nerves of steel. To beat this team you are gonna have to bury him, then you have to put the dirt on top of him and then put the cement on top of him and then watch it dry. Anything short of that they are still in the game."
The unbelievable rally marked the eighth game winning-drive that Manning has led in the last two seasons and the 24th time in the quarterback's career that he's led Big Blue to victory after trailing in the fourth quarter.
Sunday's win might not be classified as one of Manning's prettiest outings but, like Montana, it's the final result that matters most. For Manning's career, that looks like the Hall of Fame.

While it hurts to fathom, especially from the eyes of a New England native, Eli Manning is undoubtedly the best clutch quarterback going right now in the NFL.
Yes, Tom Brady led the Patriots to a comeback victory on Sunday over the hated Jets, but it marked the first time he had done so since the AFC title game last year against Baltimore. Most importantly, in...
At 5-2 and sitting on top of the NFC east, by all appearances the Giants seemed to be in very good shape. After all, Manning is having another All-Pro season and Victor Cruz is showing the football world that last season he wasn’t a one year wonder. However, all is not well in Giants-ville as questions regarding the Giants remaining schedule (which is the toughest schedule in the...
Six weeks into the season, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has been more or less ordained as the MVP front-runner.Some big showings by big names last week, however, got the debate flowing again.Specifically, Peyton Manning’s performance in the Bronco’s 24-point comeback win at San Diego (the Chargers, of course, being the reason that the dictionary has a thunderbolt next to the...
Robert Griffin III came to the New York-metropolitan area and put on a show. He ran. He threw. He dodged New York Giants' defenders with breakaway speed and left many shaking their heads and bemoaning another meeting down the road.
The rookie sensation left something else on the field. A couple of costly turnovers and way too much time for Eli Manning to pull off another fourth...

After a busy week of football we are now basically at the midpoint of the season. Some teams have disappointed and some teams have impressed. Players have broken out and got off to quick starts while others have slightly regressed and perhaps aren’t the players who we thought they were. Looking back at Week 7 here are your NFL Rock Stars.

That big Philip Rivers-for-Eli Manning trade the San Diego Chargers pulled off on draft day 2004 is now essentially a one-for-one deal.
Kicker Nate Kaeding, obtained with one of the three draft picks the Chargers got that day along with Rivers, was released from injured reserve Tuesday and became a free agent.
He'll collect $1.1 million in termination pay.
The two other players...
