Mike Shanahan was hoping Rex Grossman would be his quarterback this year and he wouldn’t have a quarterback controversy in the nations capitol. After 5 games Shanahan has no choice but to bench Grossman after 2 poor showings. In the last 2 games Grossman has thrown 6 interceptions and only completed 47% of his passes. Shanahan didn’t want to make this move to John Beck, but Grossman poor play has forced the Redskins hand into making the switch.
The Redskins game plan is simple. Run the ball on offense and rely on their defense to keep them in games. Shanahan isn’t asking his quarterback to go out and throw 50 times a game. All he is asking for is a game manager who doesn’t turn the ball over, but apparently Grossman couldn’t do this right. Maybe Shanahan needed to show Grossman some game film of Trent Dilfer when he was quarterbacking the Ravens.
