The Washington Redskins have hired former Denver assistant Keith Burns to coach the Redskins special teams.  Burns replaced long time special teams coach Danny Smith, who exited Washington to take the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Current Redskins assistant special teams coach Richard Hightower was a popular pick among players to replace Smith, but Shanahan elected to go with Burns instead. Burns, according to league insiders, is regarded as an up-and-coming coaching talent. Smith was Washington's special teams coach for nine seasons.  He had up and down years that were marred by poor kicking, until this season, when the Redskins signed rookie Kicker Kai Forbath.  Mike Shanahan has one coaching staff position to fill, wide receivers coach.
