TEAMS: Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, Maryland Terrapins, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Kent State Golden Flashes, Jacksonville St. Gamecocks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Florida State Seminoles
It's an active week for the Washington Redskins who made their first moves to trim the 2012 roster. Lets get you caught up.
Redskins kick Gano, Banks watch continues
In the biggest news, neither free agent place kicker Neil Rackers, nor incumbent Graham Gano made the team. Washington released Rackers, and then they signed Billy Cundiff, late of the Baltimore Ravens. The Redskins released Gano to make room for him.
Cundiff travelled through Dallas and New Orleans before spending the last two and a-half seasons with Baltimore. He lost the job to undrafted free agent Justin Tucker (Texas). The Ravens went with a big-legged, untested Graham Gano-like rookie to replace veteran Cundiff, while the Redskins snatched Cundiff to replace Gano. That's a head-scratcher. Raise your hands if you think this is a real solution. (Hands firmly in pocket.)
Don't call me a Gano fan. I'm just point out that the Redskins gave up on young Shaun Suisham, too, just as he was entering his...

Report: Redskins RT Brown has hip surgery
The silver lining during training camp for Redskins right tackle Jammal Brown is that his problematic right hip hadn't required surgery. However, Brown was unable to fix the injury through rehab and a pair of cortizone shots and finally underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament last week, according to The Washington Post. Brown is expected to miss 4-6 weeks and will likely...

Graham Gano Got The Starting Kicker Job For The Redskins, But Then He Got Cut A Day Later
Neil Rackers, the Washington Redskins’ veteran kicker, was cut yesterday, which opened up the door for Graham Gano, a fourth-year player who has never had a starting kicking job in the NFL. Gano hasn’t attempted a field goal all preseason, but it’s good enough for him to win the starting job because Rackers went 1-for-2 on field goals this preseason.
However, Washington cut...
Trade for Cornerback Kevin Barnes Fits Detroit Lions’ Backfield Philosophy to a Tee
If there’s ever a statue to be erected of Detroit Lions’ general Manager Martin Mayhew, the slogan on the bottom should read very much like the Statue of Liberty. ”Give me your tired, your poor and your huddled masses.”
Only, you can add “unwanted cornerbacks” to the end of that theme. Monday, the Lions addressed a need in the backfield by snagging another young defender...

Redskins’ Jammal Brown has hip surgery
Robert Griffin is obviously a talented rookie quarterback, but he might not reach his potential as a rookie because of how bad the Redskins’ offensive line is. Anyone who has watched their preseason games can see it. The Redskins were given more bad news when they found out that right tackle Jammal Brown would need surgery to repair a torn ligament in his hip. Brown has been dealing...
