Redskins head coach Mike Shanhan has indicated that he’s open to welcoming back safety Tanard Jackson once he’s eligible to be reinstated by the NFL as he continues to serve a one-year suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy just before last season.
“At the safety position, we lost [Brandon] Meriweather and Tanard Jackson last year and you are hoping that both guys will be back, will be back healthy,” said Shanahan, per CSNWashington.com.
Skins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was asked about Jackson.
“Obviously if we got Tanard back, you know that’s another bonus because he’s a heck of a football player. I don’t know where that stands with the NFL, but we’d welcome back with open arms.”
Jackson is eligible for reinstatement on September 3rd, which is only six days before the 2013 regular season is scheduled to start.
