Redskins right tackle Jammal Brown was encouraged by his first practice of the season and said he still believes he can play this year.
Brown went through his first practice of the year Monday after preseason surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left hip. He has spent all of the preseason and regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, but was cleared last week to resume practicing so coaches can evaluate him.
With Washington on a bye last week, Browns first practice was Monday. He reported no setbacks afterwards.
I feel a lot looser, could move a lot more, said Brown, who missed the 2009 season after surgery to repair a torn labrum in the same hip, and has been limited off and on since. Ill know better after a week or so, how it feels. But I feel good. It was a great day for me.
Said coach Mike Shanahan: Weve been working him out for a while, so I think hes not in football shape but hes been working out extremely hard. He looked good today. It looks like his flexibility is much improved. He looks like hes pain-free, so hopefully in the next couple weeks hell be ready to go in and hell be in football shape. Robert Griffin III is a rookie.
A good one at that.
The Washington Redskins are also well aware of his maturity and what he means to the Redskins as a team. Today, the Redskins announced that the rookie quarterback is one of three new team captains.
It makes sense.
Let's not fool ourselves. The Redskins are a 3-6 football team. They are also...

Redskins wideout Pierre Garcon was still bothered by pain in the foot at Monday's practice, according to Rich Campbell of the Washington Times.Fantasy Spin:Our best guess is that Garcon has a date with a foot surgeon in his near future. Fantasy owners who have waited patiently for his return are likely to be disappointed.
According to Philly.com, the Philadelphia Eagles were ready to trade up in last April’s draft to be able to acquire Robert Griffin III. They showed interest in Griffin by meeting with him, but didn’t have the ammunition to pull off the deal. “I met with the Eagles and coach Reid told me they were very interested in me and you never know what can happen,” Griffin III said...
