Oft-injured offensive tackle Jammal Browns contract is set to automatically void at 4 p.m. Friday, a move that will trigger $1.1 million in salary cap savings for the Washington Redskins.
Brown, who didnt play last season after failing to overcome a hip injury, in 2011 signed a five-year contract with the Redskins, who in 2010 acquired him via trade from the New Orleans Saints.
He restructured his deal last season, and as a result, the remaining three years that were left on his contract will void. Brown will count $3.3 million in dead money against Washingtons salary cap this season, but the team will receive a savings of more than $4 million in 2014.
The Redskins are believed to currently be roughly $4 million over the salary cap, but have until March 12 to trim that excess and create room for roster moves during the upcoming free agency signing period.
