Injuries have given Evan Royster a clear shot to claim the starting running back job for the Washington Redskins.
The second-year player is expected to get the bulk of the first-team work Saturday when the Redskins visit Chicago.
Tim Hightower is recovering from knee surgery, and Roy Helu Jr. has tendinitis in his left Achilles tendon. There's a chance either or both could return for next week's game at Indianapolis, but that leaves Royster and prospects Alfred Morris and Tristan Davis carrying the load for now.
Royster is Penn State's career rushing leader rusher. He was a sixth-round draft pick a year ago and began the season on the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster midseason and rushed for 100 yards in each of the final two games.

The Washington Redskins entered training camp with more depth than ever. This was especially true along the defensive line and should remain that way unless they become injury riddled. Yesterday, they suffered their first blow. Chris Neild is done for the season after tearing his ACL in 11-on-11's yesterday.

Daniel Snyder and the Washington Redskins are notoriously big spenders. You have to generate revenue somehow. Apparently the Skins are running out of ideas to generate that revenue, as Washington is now selling commemorative T-shirts for a preseason game. That's because the Redskins are getting ready for the preseason game to (hopefully) end all preseason games -- the granddaddy...
The Washington Redskins want you to show your support for RGIII with their QB Showdown Rivalry T-Shirt for $35.00. The QB showdown between Robert Griffin and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is August 25, at FedEXField.
Legenday NFL coach Joe Gibbs got very un-pc during an interview with Bram Weinstein and Ryen Russillo of ESPN on Wednesday.
Gibbs and the show hosts were talking about how basketball has now taken all the players who might have starred as NFL tight ends. Gibbs, chiming in about his known love for the position, said "they always said I was queer for tight ends." Watch:
Redskins receiver Leonard Hankerson, who had to be helped off the field on Tuesday due to dehydration (according to the Washington Post), was back at practice on Wednesday.Fantasy Spin:Hankerson caught 13 balls for 163 yards in four games before an injury ended his season, but is expected to be a big part of the Redskins' offense as the No. 3 receiver behind aging Santana Moss...
According to the Washington Post, Redskins running back Tim Hightower (ACL) joined 11-on-11 drills Thursday for the first time this training camp.Fantasy Spin:Hightower is listed as the No. 1 running back on the depth chart, but we don't think he'll finish the season there. Remember, Hightower started out last season as the team's featured back, carrying the ball 25 times...

Whether you are a Redskins fan or not, it’s becoming difficult not to like rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner first raised eyebrows when his obsession for socks went mainstream at the Heisman ceremony and Griffin wore a pair with a Superman cape hanging from them. Apparently Griffin’s obsession for superheroes [...]
Who’s ready for the Redskins-Colts preseason game coming up next week? The Redskins Store is! Seriously, they’re selling an RGIII-Andrew Luck “QB Showdown Rivalry T-Shirt” for $35 (plus S & H).
It should be noted that the Colts Pro Shop is also selling this shirt, but I think we all know whose idea it was.

It’s not often that there’s a large amount of hype surrounding a preseason contest. This year, however, there’s one exception — Colts vs. Redskins. Andrew Luck vs. Robert Griffin III; No. 1 overall pick vs. No. 2 overall pick. Battle of the highly-touted quarterbacks.
You get the picture.
Both teams will meet at FedEx Field on August 25, and the home team is doing their best...
Washington Redskins’ defensive end Adam Carriker conducted an interview with teammate Robert Griffin III on 4th & Pain (Twitter page @4thAndPain); Griffin won the 2012 Heisman Trophy and was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. The pair talked about RGIII’s fondness for pro wrestling and how he wouldn’t wear the traditional “tighty-whities”...
