Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris seems to understand NFL stands for ‘Not For Long,’ as in how long most 6th round draft picks will be cashing checks in the league. The guy came out of Florida Atlantic in the 2012 draft and seemingly knew his rookie contract wasn’t going to stretch very far. That’s his 1991 Mazda 626.

He drives it to the Redskins practice facility, according to the Redskins blog, and parks it right next to five-figure SUVs. How much is a 1991 Mazda 626 worth? Very little. Here’s one for sale in Rome, GA for $999.

Let’s keep in mind that the Morris ride is a Florida ride.

Which made for some interesting road trips.

“It was rough,” Morris recalled. “I put my emergency lights on, and people would be driving behind me, and I’d be like, ‘My emergency lights are on — stop following me.’

“I’d be stalling at lights and stuff and just sitting there trying to get it started back up, and I’d be like, ‘I have emergency lights on. Why would you get behind me? You see the lights — go around.’”

Since that time, however, Morris has had some quality time to bond with his vehicle, considering he drove it more than 20 hours from South Florida to his new D.C.-area residence when he was drafted by the Redskins.

As for Morris sticking in the NFL and upgrading to a 2001 626, that could happen pretty quickly. He had 96 yards on 28 carries and two TDs in Week One against the Saints. Then, last week, he had 89 yards on 16 carries. That’s good enough to be the Redskins leading rusher.
