In today’s MUST READ, Dan Daly of TBD orders Redskins management to tear the roster down and rebuild it, focusing on youth.

Which three players on the Redskins’ 53-man roster – or, if you prefer, their 61-man roster – excite you the most? (I wouldn’t be surprised if they all had something in common.)

The names I’ve scribbled down are Brian Orakpo, Trent Williams and Brandon Banks, though I’ll also accept LaRon Landry, DeAngelo Hall and Chris Cooley as answers. Why Orakpo, Williams and Banks? Because I’m convinced they have a chance to be the best in the NFL at their positions in the coming years – or at least, one of the best.

And here’s the tie that binds them, in case it isn’t already obvious: youth.

Orakpo is 24, Williams is 22 and Banks will turn 23 later this month. Landry (26), Hall (27) and Cooley (28) are also comfortably under 30. If the Redskins are ever going to set foot in the Super Bowl again – and they’ve been trying for almost two decades now – they need to acquire more good, young players like these. Ascending players, scouts call them.

Right now, the team Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan have assembled is the oldest in the league. But this approach hasn’t worked for them the way the Over the Hill Gang worked for Allen’s father in the ’70s.

I agree completely with Mr Daly. Go read the entire column.

Mikes Jones of TBD writes that young Redskins can help themselves over the next 5 games. Jason Reid of The Post thinks so, too.

The annual Quarterback Club event to honor the Redskins Player of the Year has been held since 1969. Not this year. Not enough corporate sponsors, apparently.

John Keim lists his studs & duds from the Vikings game. The duds portion is a lot longer.

Keim also lists his 5 questions about the upcoming Giants game, including whether or not the Redskins can slow the NY pass rush [I think not], will the Redskins be able to run the ball [doubtful], and should the role of Brandon Banks be enlarged [of course it should -- give the guy all the work his little body can handle]. Those are my responses to the questions, not John’s. Go read what he thinks.

Rich Campbell hands out his game balls and gassers for the Vikings game and adds a host of observations about the players and the game. It’s always a good read so go have a look.

Ryan O’Halloran breaks down who played how much in the Vikings game. It’s always an interesting read. Quick takeaway: Why do WR Terrence Austin and WR Brandon Banks get a total of 8 plays between them while WR Roydell Williams gets 23 plays. What has Williams done this year to justify 3 times as many plays as the two young speedsters got combined?

Is this a wasted season for the Redskins? Rich Tandler looks at both sides of the question. My view: Ask me again in 5 weeks.
