The Washington Redskins and free agent Pat White are set to announce the signing of a contract on Wednesday. White attempted to re-start his NFL career in January after being out of football since 2011.
White met with Redskin officials on Tuesday and a deal will be announced once the team clears some cap space.
The former University of Virginia quarterback left the NFL in 2010, after being released by the Dolphins. He then pursued a career in baseball first with the Kansas City Royals and later with the Miami Marlins. He compiled no statistics from the major or minor leagues.
White has a lot to prove in regards to whether he even deserves to be on an NFL team’s 53 man roster, but signing with a team is a start.
It is currently unclear if the signing of White will have any bearing on second year backup Kirk Cousins.
In White’s first stint in the NFL he was 0-for-5 in pass attempts and ran 21 times for 81 yards. He last played in January of 2010 after being knocked unconscious.
