The Washington Redskins have released running back Ryan Torain.
Torain has had a wildly inconsistent second season with Washington after battling injuries with the Redskins last season and with the Denver Broncos as a rookie in 2008.
A fourth-round draft pick in 2008, Torain seemingly had taken over the starting job after he rambled for 135 yards and a touchdown in a 17-10 win at St. Louis in Week 4.
However, he followed that up with 22 yards on 10 carries the following week to kick off a six-game span in which he rushed for 57 yards on 36 carries.
Torain has appeared in only one game since, picking up eight yards on four carries in Saturday's loss to Minnesota.
