Opportunity knocks With the Redskins cap penalty preventing huge free agent moves, the team is forced to lean more heavily on their in-house guys and develop their young talent. In these segments, I will be taking a look at the players who have a chance and the opportunity to make an impact on the team this season. *Redskins Young Talent: Jordan Bernstine Stretching the field… This is term NFL offenses use to describe what a speedy deep threat wide receiver can do to a defense. And even though Aldrick Robinson only had 11 Receptions for 237 yards for 3 touchdowns last year this is exactly what he did. 2 of the 3 touchdowns were from 50+ yards and had varying impact on the games in which they were made. But it was the plays in which he did not get thrown a ball that Robinson made the most impact, with his routes always seeming to catch the attention of Safeties and making other big plays possible for Garcon, Moss, and yes even Mr. Underachiever Leonard Hankerson. Aldrick Robinson is a premier example of what can happen when players are given a true opportunity to develop in the system, and take advantage when they get the chance. Robinson was drafted by the Redskins in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL draft out of SMU, but he ended up being signed to the practice squad instead of the final 53-man roster. This was the best thing for Robinson, He was explosively fast and had really impressive route running ability & hands but lacked overall size. He was dubbed by coaches as a project player and a possible replacement for the aging Santana Moss. For 16 weeks on the practice squad Robinson flourished, he took full advantage of the coaches and video sessions made available to him. He learned the Shanahan’s system but more importantly he became a versatile player, doing everything from returning punts and kickoffs to mimicking players like the Eagles DeShawn Jackson. His level of commitment was unwavering normally coming in before 7am to begin his day.  All that hard work and dedication finally paid off in the last week of the 2011 season, as the Torain Train left the station for the final time and Robinson got the call up and was added to the active roster. He was hungry to keep on the active roster and took that mentality into the 2012 training camp. He had an active competition with Brandon Banks for the punt returning duties, but caught the eye of Mike Shanahan with his 49 yard catch and run for a touchdown in the second week of the pre-season against Chicago. Shanahan saw the potential in Robinson and he made the team. During week 1 of last season after Pierre Garcon had to leave due to injury, he made an immediate impact catching 4 balls for 53 yards including a 5 yard touchdown in the second quarter. He had a similar game in week 2 against the Rams, but dropped a crucial 57 yard pass that was right in his hands. In week 4 he was involved in a pre game warm-ups collision with safety Brandon Meriweather that lead to Meriweather hurting his knee and Robinson getting a concussion. He was then used in different packages to spread the field catching a few passes here and there but his true impact was felt in week 11 catching a huge 49 yard touchdown pass against the Eagles and then did it again the next week in Dallas on Thanksgiving grabbing a beautiful 68 yard touchdown. These are the kind of plays the Redskins will rely heavy on in 2013, plays that exploit holes in opposing defenses and provide the offense with a spark and momentum that carry over into the following weeks. 4 of Robinson’s 11 receptions on the year went for 28 yards or greater. With the run game firmly established with Alfred Morris, Robinson should find many chances this season to use his speed to get behind the defense. His ability to stretch the field should be huge this season. The opportunity is there for him to step up and have a big impact on the Skins offense this year. Aldrick Robinson is a difference maker and a young player who after 2 years of development is going to make a difference in 2013. Wide receiver Pierre Garcon in uncertain that he will be be at 100 percent when the regular season starts. “I’ll be healthy enough to play,” Garcon said Thursday on NFL Network. “I can’t say I’ll be 100 percent, but I’ll be back out there helping the team in any way possible.” Last year Garcon struggled  to get on the field while dealing with a toe injury. RG3 receives warm hug from Morgan Freeman

Check out this great photo. Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III received a nice warm hug from Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman. It happened during the after party for the Hollywood premiere of Freeman's new movie “Oblivion.”

Robert Griffin III: “I’ll be better” in 2013

TMZ ended up tracking down Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III and told him that he’ll be just as good in 2013 as he was this past season. Griffin then responded by saying, ” I’ll be better.” I love Griffin’s confidence, but he’s going to have to mentally overcome his second ACL injury and the fact that NFL defenses will have had an entire offseason to learn how...

Pierre Garcon says Adderall is a problem in the NFL

Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon told NFL AM on the NFL Network that the use of Adderall in the NFL is only getting worse. “There is an issue with it,” Garcon said, per NFL.com. “It gives you an upper hand that regular guys like myself don’t have. It helps you focus more attention to what’s going on, on the field, and that is an advantage because regular...

Pic of the Day: RGIII and Morgan Freeman

We have no context for this image, but it’s just fantastic on so many levels, and we had to share: (via Reddit) (H/T Reddit/r/nfl)

Pierre Garcon Says RG3 Can Be Just As Good As Peyton Manning

Pierre Garcon has been in the NFL 5 years and is spoiled by good quarterback play. Garcon spent his first four season playing with Peyton Manning. Last season as a free agent, Garcon landed in D.C. just as the Redskins were landing Robert Griffin III.  We all know how that season went as well. After watching RG3 for a full season, Garcon told NFL AM that “Griffin III can be...

Pierre Garcon believes Robert Griffin III can be ‘just as good’ as Peyton Manning

Comparing a quarterback that has played for one season in the NFL to one of the best quarterbacks, statistically at least, of all time isn’t usually allowed around these parts. But since Pierre Garcon has played with both Robert Griffin III and Peyton Manning we’ll entertain this.Garcon made an appearance on NFL AM on the NFL Network Thursday and flat out told viewers that Robert...

Robert Griffin III Says He’ll Be Better Next Year (Video)

The one reason I liked RG3 coming out of college, had nothing to do with his legs, it had to do with his accuracy. No matter how athletically gifted you are, you can’t succeed in the NFL, if you don’t have a good feel in the pocket and you aren’t accurate with your passes. There is a lot of talk about the read option, but what people are forgetting, are the quarterbacks that...

Morgan Freeman Loves RG3 Too

I have him in my dynasty league Juan… Actor Morgan Freeman and Washington Redskins star QB Robert Griffin III attend the after party for the premiere of Universal Pictures’ “Oblivion” the other night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood — This picture is an instant classic. The Most Cornball Photo Of RGIII To Date

Yesterday, we showed a painting of Robert Griffin III looking like a badass, so in the interest of fairness, here he is at his most inoffensive. No one show this to Rob Parker. He’ll just crow with validation at whatever outlet hired him after he got canned by ESPN. Not sure why this photo looks like it was taken at a mall photography studio. Don’t worry, RGIII is your best black...

Morgan Freeman Showing Robert Griffin III Some Love

One of the many cool things about being one of the most popular professional athletes on the planet (or at least in the NFL) has to be getting invited to movie premieres. You may have to dress up rather than go in sweats or your shorts like you normally would, but you get to see it first. Eh--its a trade off. You also get the chance to hang out and rub elbows with some of the...
