The season is lost, but the approach is not. At least not for Eagles head coach Andy Reid, who despite no chance of returning to the playoffs this season said he would not "experiment" with his younger, inexperienced players at the cost of winning over the final two weeks. "It's not like some of the young guys haven't gotten an opportunity to play," Reid said in preparing for today's game at New Orleans against the 7-7 Saints, who unlike the 6-8 Eagles remain alive in the NFC playoff race. "I'm not saying none of the young guys will play," Reid said, "but we want to go after these next two games to come out on top. We're not going in to experiment or that kind of thing. We're going to play our best football." Alas for the Eagles, playing their "best football" now will not be enough to save a maddening season that has included five losses by four or fewer points and some more on-again, off-again sagas involving Donovan McNabb. Those sagas started in April when the Eagles used their first pick of the draft to select University of Houston quarterback Kevin Kolb, who has been a frequent topic at Reid's news conferences. As in something like, "Coach, will Kolb play soon?" "No," Reid keeps saying. Not that McNabb, 31 and injured in four of the last six seasons, seems bothered by the constant Kolb queries. "Every time I've been asked that question [of playing for the Eagles in 2008], I've said I'll be back," McNabb said. "I look forward to being back, maybe for eight more years. That's always been my answer." So much for experimenting over the final two games with Kolb, who has not played since taking a couple of sacks at the end of a rout of the Lions in Week 3. "[McNabb] needs to go play," Reid said of the Eagles' final two games, "just like the rest of the guys need to go play and do their best."
