RELAX, REGGIE BROWN IS LEAVING
Expect a draft day trade for our wayward wideout. Think Brad Childress or Seattle. Tom Heckert got on WIP and played up the "Oh my god, isn't he just a BARGAIN!" angle so someone (anyone) would try to trade for Brown. DTRIK19 made an astute point about the $3.5M "dead money" cap hit the EAGLES stand to take if they cut Brown. Paying more to cut a guy, is worse than paying less to keep him. On the other hand Andy Reid is not going to keep a malcontent in his locker room (see: T.O.) Joe Banner, like the rest of us knows that trading Brown's fairly light contract absolves them of most dead money woes. (Although I think there is a hit for some trades as well.) For more about dead money visit: http://assets.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1403609.html It's a 2002 article, but it should still make it easier to understand dead money.
