The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly “discussed” a potential deal for talented Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news, but noted that a trade is “unlikely” because of the injured players that the 49ers will be getting back into the lineup over the next few weeks. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Cleveland’s asking price for Gordon is believed to be a second-round pick. These types of picks are highly-coveted by NFL teams, but the 49ers could have an extra second-round selection to dangle before the October 29 trade deadline thanks to their offseason deal with the Kansas City Chiefs involving quarterback Alex Smith. If the Chiefs and Smith win three more games, a third-round pick that was sent to San Francisco in the trade becomes a second-rounder. The 49ers’ receiving corps will be bolstered when Michael Crabtree is fully recovered from an Achilles injury, but in the meantime, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick another weapon. Anquan Boldin is the only 49ers pass-catcher to tally 100 or more receiving yards in a game this season. The team hasn’t had any 100-plus yard receivers since Week 1.
