Found February 22, 2012 on Pro Football Zone:

According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers will likely place the franchise tag on safety Dashon Goldson since the salary for a safety is much lower then quarterback or cornerback under the tag.

Speaking of the 49ers and their free agent quarterback Alex Smith and cornerback Carlos Rogers, they’ll likely be signed to long-term deals to ensure they don’t go anywhere.

Smith’s contract will likely be similar to the deal the Cardinals gave to quarterback Kevin Kolb last season, except it will likely have a lot more incentives in order to protect the 49ers from losing a lot of money if he doesn’t play well next season and they end up deciding to move on from him.

49ers mum on Smith's contract status

The San Francisco 49ers are on record that they'd prefer not to use the franchise tag this offseason, but they also have a quarterback who could be a free agent. And Alex Smith seemed to find himself and his niche last season. GM Trent Baalke said San Francisco remains committed to re-signing Smith but offered no details on where things stand. "We're working hard...

Ahmad Brooks Looking for 8 Mil a Year?

I recently came across this tweet from Matt Barrows. A fan asked Matt how much leverage Brooks has considering lack of depth at OLB position. This is what Matt had to say on Twitter. Depends on who gets tagged. Brooks seeking $8M-a-year deal. @damo49ers: How much leverage does Brooks have considering lack of depth at OLB? — Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) February 22, 2012 Now the...

Burning question: does Alex Smith have enough weapons in San Francisco?

Alex Smith has worn a San Francisco 49ers uniform for seven years now. 2011 marks the first time his team has finished above 18th in the league in points. And while he was called upon to manage games for most of the regular season, the playoffs provided a revelation.  Alex Smith, a former bust who has had to struggle his way to mediocrity, outgunned the mighty Drew Brees at the...

Jim Harbaugh was Indiana basketball’s team manager (Pictures, Video)

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is going to be in Indianapolis for the NFL combine this week, so it only made sense Wednesday night for him to make the hour-long drive south to Bloomington to see his brother-in-law Tom Crean’s Indiana Hoosiers take on North Carolina Central. But what Harbaugh was seen doing during the game might make less sense. Fans in attendance probably noticed...

Vernon Davis Is Killing The Twittergame Lately

49ers TE Vernon Davis has been on top of his twittergame over the past couple days. Riveting stuff. Say no to cigarettes and drugs! — Vernon Davis (@VernonDavis85) February 21, 2012 Eating olives right now @ stanford university but the olives are warm. I hate warm olives! — Vernon Davis (@VernonDavis85) February 21, 2012

Obama jokingly asks 49ers TE Davis to join Bears

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis credits President Barack Obama as being an inspiration. Last week, Obama applauded Davis when paying a visit to a fundraiser in the Bay Area - and then offered a suggestion. "I want to thank Vernon Davis for being here," Obama said. "If you want to come and play for the Bears, you are welcome to do it." The tongue...

49ers GM Trent Baalke on Alex Smith, other free agents: 'We want to keep our guys in place'

49ers general manager says he probably won't view tape of 49ers loss to New York Giants because it makes more sense to focus on the future.

Whitner says Bowman is 'co-MVP' of Niners' D with Justin Smith

Donte Whitner's hit on Pierre Thomas helped the 49ers beat the Saints in last season's playoffs. He tells Steve Wyche that the loss to the Giants a week later still hurts.
