According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, this could be quarterback Alex Smith’s final season with the San Francisco 49ers if he doesn’t regain his starting spot now that Colin Kaepernick has taken over as Niners’ lead  signal-caller. The 49ers didn’t draft Kaepernick in the 4th round of the 2011 draft to sit and watch.  It’s obvious that he’s ready to take over as their full-time starter.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

  • Betrayal seems to be in vogue these days. Alex deserves a shot with a team that has his back. Something no one will ever get with this stupid coach.

Will players now hide concussions?

While there has been a lot of talk about the 49ers QB controversy, one thing hasn't really been discussed:  Will this start a trend of players hiding concussions?

QUARTERBACK QUANDARY

Vernon Davis: 'Alex is still our guy'

Even though Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a win over the Saints, tight end Vernon Davis nevertheless voiced his support for benched starter Alex Smith.

NFL Rumors: Will QB Alex Smith remain with the 49ers in 2013?

Despite not naming a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, the San Francisco 49ers appear poised to usher in the Colin Kaepernick era in the Bay area. The second year signal caller made a spectacular debut last week against the Chicago Bears and is widely regarded as the future for the franchise than Alex Smith is. The question now has to be asked...

Smith active for 49ers, but Kaepernick starts

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, sidelined since Nov. 11 with a concussion, was cleared to play today against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, but Colin Kaepernick is the starter. It will be the second start for Kaepernick, the second-year player out of Nevada, who helped demolish the Chicago Bears Monday night, 32-7. Smith is the only other active quarterback...

San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints: Three Bold Predictions

The big story exploding from San Francisco calls for controversy.Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith? The choice is not yours, but still an easy call at this point.Alex Smith has not received medical clearance to play (at the time of this writing). With no time to waste, reports acknowledge that Jim Harbaugh decided to assign the first-string practice snaps to the hot (and healthy) guy...

Stat Pack: Alex Smith Now, Colin Kaepernick Later

Adam Dobrowolski explains why quarterback controversy may cost the 49ers a Super Bowl, but keeping future options open is the best long-term solution.

It Appears Kapernick is the Answer for the 49ers

As you probably know by now, I'm a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and have been ever since I can remember. So can imagine how great I feel to see the 'Niners do well. Before last season, I haven't been able to say that for a while, since the 49ers didn't make the playoffs every year since the '02-'03 season. To be honest, I didn't expect the team...

San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints: Week 12 NFL Pick

San Francisco 49ers (7-2) at New Orleans Saints (5-5) Colin Kaepernick will start this one for the 49ers. Kaepernick was incredibly impressive against a tough Bears defense on Monday Night, going 16 of 23 for 243 yards and 2 scores in a 32-7 win over the Jay Cutler-less Bears. Against St. Louis after Alex Smith got hurt, he was also impressive going 11 of 17 for 117 yards, leading...

After another big win, 49ers QBs still in limbo

Jim Harbaugh has watched each of his two quarterbacks lead the San Francisco 49ers to big wins in hostile, road environments - Alex Smith in the season opener at Green Bay's Lambeau Field back in September, and Colin Kaepernick on Sunday at the New Orleans Superdome. Which one gets the ball on Sunday at St. Louis? Harbaugh is still mum on that, though he did say Monday he will...

San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints point spead, line and preview

The San Francisco 49ers will play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Superdome. The game is scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. EST start time and can be seen in many markets as the late game on FOX. New Orleans was given up for dead when the season started, now they are one of the most dangerous teams in the league. The 49ers will start Colin Kaepernick at quarterback as they apparently...

Straight Outta Stockton - Week 12

This week's Straight Outta Stockton could easily be renamed Straight Outta Aikman as the lead NFL on Fox analyst had a rough time during yesterday's Saints-49ers game.  While a few of those are noted below, I have to pay tribute to the work Aikman is doing to the English language.  Multiple times during Sunday's telecast, Aikman said "I don't disagree"...

Report: Greg Jennings won’t play tonight

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports (via TheRedZone.org), Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings won’t play in tonight’s game against the Giants. It looks like Jennings still isn’t ready to go after undergoing groin surgery a few weeks ago.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName...
