Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago reports that the Bears have approached WR Eric Weems about a pay cut.
Dickerson adds that the Bears are prepared to release Weems in the event that he declines to accept a pay reduction.
Weems, 28, signed a three-year, $4.2 million contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus with the Bears back in 2012. He has a 2014 base salary of $1 million to go along with a $1.6 million cap figure.
Releasing Weems would free up $1.1 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.
Last year, Weems appeared in all 16 games for the Bears, but contributed just one reception for 8 yards. However, Pro Football Focus did have him rated as an above average special teams player.
