EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen told reporters after Sunday's loss at Chicago that he never meant any harm to Bears guard Lance Louis on a vicious hit, but Louis is now out for the season as a result.
Following an interception by cornerback Antoine Winfield early in the third quarter of Chicago's 28-10 win, Allen found Louis closing in on Winfield. Allen blocked an unsuspecting Louis hard, leaving his feet and burying his shoulder into Louis' shoulder and head and knocking Louis to the ground.
The Bears announced Monday that Louis has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury and that his season is over. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Louis suffered a torn ACL.
Chicago coach Lovie Smith felt Allen's tactics on the block were a bit over the top.
