Ben Roethlisberger left the game on Monday Night against the Chiefs with what looked like a rib injury, he did not return. In Tuesday’s Press Conference, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Roethlisberger sustained a sprained Sternoclavicular, and that he was questionable moving forward. A day after, the Steelers ruled Big Ben out, and announced QB Byron Leftwich would get the start. Roethlisberger’s injury is very serious though, and much more than a shoulder injury according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Review, an injury that could potentially be fatal to the Steelers signal caller.   #Steelers Ben Roethlisberger has a rare rib injury that could kill him by pressing against his aorta. (AP Photo)Roethlisberger’s rib injury wasn’t reported until this morning by Adam Schefter of ESPN, where he said that the team is more focused on the rib injury rather than the original shoulder injury. The rib injury is a rare, yet serious one. One that was last seen by doctors in 1998 when a professional Rugby player was diagnosed with it. The Steelers play the division leading Ravens twice in three games, and it doesn’t appear that Ben will be able to suit up for either match-up at this point. Bouchette also tweeted “Roethlisberger’s rib is partially dislocated and of more concern than the shoulder. Don’t look for him to play in awhile” Not a good sign for the Steelers moving forward.
