GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Running back Cedric Benson could be returning to the Packers for a second season. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Benson -- currently a free agent -- is flying to Green Bay on Wednesday to meet with the team.
Benson, 30, was the Packers' starting running back when the 2012 season began. After rushing for 248 yards and one touchdown through four games, Benson suffered a season-ending Lisfranc foot injury. Schefter added that Benson is "almost healed" from that injury.
Last week, general manager Ted Thompson didn't speculate on Benson potentially returning to Green Bay.
"I wouldn't comment on that," Thompson said. "He's an unrestricted free agent, and he has an injury thing he has to get past, but we'll see."
The Packers are in need of a star running back to pair with quarterback Aaron Rodgers to help balance the offense and keep opposing defenses from planning for a pass on nearly every down. Benson, the four...

It’s what all football fans worry about when a star player gets a new contract. Will he still be the same player? Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews recently signed a new 5-yr, $66 million, but he says that won’t change the player fans have grown accustomed to. "As far as everything I want to accomplish, it has to do with winning ball games and setting records...

Did you ever have that situation where you tried something the first time and you thought it was great, but the next time you tried it just wasn't that good?
For instance, you go to get some pizza from around the corner and afterwards you swear to your friends that you never had better pizza, but when you all go back there the pepperoni pizza actually tastes like...
Make no mistake about it, the Green Bay Packers know that they have to address the running back position at some point this offseason and after kicking the tires on a number of veterans, it’s time for general manager Ted Thompson to turn his attention toward his favorite method of player acquisition: the NFL Draft.

If there’s anything Green Bay Packers fans have learned about the NFL Draft process, it’s to trust Ted Thompson.
It’s about more than just drafting guys like Aaron Rodgers, B.J. Raji and Clay Matthews in the first round. It’s been about excelling in the later rounds, where he’s picked up guys like James Jones (third round, 2007) Desmond Bishop (sixth round, 2007), Josh...
