Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t just listening to offers for OT Branden Albert, they are “actively” shopping around him around the league.
The Chiefs are reportedly seeking out suitors for Albert, who just recently signed his one-year franchise tender worth $9.828 million. Kansas City couldn’t trade him until he was under contract.
“I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do,” Albert said. “I don’t know if I’m being traded, but I understand it’s a possibility.”
There have been rumors that Albert could be on the trading block for months now. The Chiefs recent decision to release Eric Winston seemed to suggest that they would keep Albert as their right tackle and possibly draft Luke Joeckel or possibly even Eric Fisher with No. 1 overall pick. Of course, this is still an option, but there’s a chance that they could look to capitalize on the fact that Albert is the best available option at left tackle.
Miami and Detroit could both use help at offensive tackle could be willing to part with as much as second-round pick in return for Albert. Rumors regarding a trade may not pick up until a few weeks before the draft, but this is at least an idea worth some consideration.
