When the Kansas City Chiefs executed a trade with the New York Jets to bring back wide receiver Mecole Hardman, a pair of roster casualties were waived in order to make room on the roster. Rookie defensive tackle  Keondre Coburn was one of them, but his time away from the organization didn't last too long.

Per a Thursday morning report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, Coburn is returning to Kansas City on a practice squad basis.

Rookie defensive tackle Keondre Coburn is signing back with the #Chiefs to their practice squad after being waived by Denver on Tuesday, per a source. The former Longhorns @TexasFootball standout was a sixth round pick by KC in this year's draft @KPRC2

Coburn, the No. 194 overall selection in this year's NFL Draft, broke camp with the team and made the opening week roster. He logged nine defensive snaps in Week 1, although he hasn't played in a game since then. Once the Chiefs traded for Neil Farrell and eventually signed Matt Dickerson to the active roster, the defensive tackle room grew a bit crowded. As a result, Coburn became somewhat more expendable and the team waived him on Oct. 19.

In the aftermath of Coburn getting waived, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo expressed his interest in the Texas product returning to the organization's practice squad.

"Yeah, we sure do," Spagnuolo said. "I love KC. He was great. I gave him a big hug this morning, and I'll be saying prayers later on that we'll be able to [get him back]. He's a good kid."

Coburn was subsequently claimed off waivers by the Denver Broncos, spending less than a full month with the team before being waived once again. He's had a busy rookie campaign despite not seeing the field much, already having spent time with two franchises in the AFC West. Now, Coburn is back where everything started for him. He provides upside and depth for Kansas City's defensive line rotation if needed down the stretch of the 2023-24 season.
