Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star reports that the Colts have informed DE Dwight Freeney and WR Austin Collie on Friday that they will not re-signed during the offseason. “I was very surprised to hear they wanted to go in a different direction,” said Freeney in a text message sent to ESPN’s Ed Werder. “Would have been nice to retire a Colt.” Both players are set to become unrestricted free agent in the next few weeks, but it’s really not surprising that the Colts are ready to move on. Forcing Freeney to play outside linebacker in their new 3-4 base defense last year hurt his overall production. Freeney, 32, is a much better fit as a 4-3 defensive end and should be able to find some interest on the open market, but most likely at a reduced price. The Seahawks have already been tossed as a speculative option by ESPN’s John Clayton. As for Collie, he’s not only dealt with multiple concussions in recent year’s, but also suffered a ruptured right patella tendon this season. The guy co...

Should the Broncos go after Dwight Freeney?

The Indianapolis Colts informed Dwight Freeney today that they will not re-sign him, and thus, he is free to sign with whoever he wants. The Broncos have a lot of money tied up in the younger Dumervil (29)(Freeney is 33), and not much on the other side of the line, where Freeney plays. Sure, the Broncos have Wolfe, but he’s better inside. Robert Ayers plays Freeney’s position...

Indianapolis Colts Release Dwight Freeney

The all time sack leader in Colts history will no longer be with the team.  Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Colts have released defensive end Dwight Freeney, and won’t be resigning him. The 33-year-old Freeney played 10 season in Indianapolis, where he accrued 107.5 sacks in that time span.  I’m sure there will be a line of suitors looking for a capable pass rusher...

Atlanta A Potential Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Atlanta Falcons. Yasinskas adds that Freeney isn’t a “long-term answer,” but he could provide some much needed help opposite of John Abraham next season. The Colts informed Freeney that they have no intentions of bringing him back next season, so he will be free to sign with a new team as of...

Dwight Freeney wasn’t just a game changer. He changed the game…for me.

Colts Linebacker Dwight Freeney(Photo: Indy Star) Goodbye, old friend. There are certain players you have a kinship with. You feel like you know them, like you have a history with them, like you’ve been through some stuff with them…even if you’ve never met them. Dwight Freeney is one of those players for me. Dwight Freeney has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts for as...

Colts release Austin Collie, won’t re-sign Dwight Freeney

According to Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, the Colts have released wide receiver Austin Collie and have informed defensive end/linebacker Dwight Freeney that they won’t be re-signing him. Freeney simply wasn’t a good fit in the Colts 3-4 defense.  He needs to go back to playing in a 4-3 as a defensive end. Collie on the other hand could never stay healthy.  He is a heck of...

End of an era – Colts part ways with Dwight Freeney

The Indianapolis Colts today informed Dwight Freeney that his contract would not be renewed. Freeney was an unrestricted free agent, and the Colts have opted to not re-up with the prolific pass rasher for 2013. Dwight Freeney is hitting the market: Should the Patriots sign him?

Yesterday, it was revealed that Dwight Freeney would not be returning to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2013 season. MT ‏@acwishtv BREAKING: I have been told Dwight Freeney has been informed the #Colts do not intend to re-sign him when free-agency begins — Mary Paoletti (@Mary_Paoletti) February 15, 2013 So, with pass rush being a big problem for the New England Patriots...

I'm surprised Dwight Freeney is not a name more associated with the Patriots in terms of potential FA target. He is proven veteran -- for which Belichick must definitely have a lot of respect -- that could be a great pass rush specialist for the Patriots

I’ve gotten a couple questions about Freeney and I just don’t see him fitting on the...
