Report: 'It's Jacksonville or bust' for Urban Meyer coaching in NFL

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hoping to finalize a deal to make Urban Meyer the next head coach of the team, and if the deal does not go through, it sounds like Meyer won't be coaching in the NFL at all. ESPN's Adam Schefter says that Jacksonville is the only NFL job that Meyer is really considering at this point.

"I'm told it's Jacksonville or bust," Schefter explained on "Get Up" Thursday. "That's the only place right now that Urban Meyer is going to consider at the NFL level."

This does not come as too much of a surprise for anyone who has been following Meyer and Jacksonville. While there have been rumors of the Chargers and other teams showing interest in Meyer, it's been pretty clear that the Jaguars are the team he has been set on coaching, assuming he returns to coaching at all. Why is Meyer so specifically interested in Jacksonville? Schefter laid out the appeal.

"The Jacksonville Jaguars have the no. 1 overall pick," Schefter explained. "They are scheduled to have 11 picks. They have over $100 million in salary-cap space in what is expected to be a depressed market where the cap goes down due to the pandemic."

It's not difficult to figure out why the Jaguars are set on Meyer, as the three-time college football National Champion has the most impressive résumé of any head-coaching candidates, even if his success has not been achieved on a professional level. It is believed a deal could be reached this week.
