Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports that the Jets are expected to release QB Tim Tebow following the upcoming draft.
Cimini adds that Tebow is still expected to report next Monday for the start of the Jets’ voluntary workouts.
The Jets have reportedly been trying to trade Tebow, but haven’t found any real interest. A recent report mentioned that the Seahawks considered the idea, but no longer see him as an option. Seattle brought in four quarterbacks for workouts on Monday, so they appear to be deciding between them.
Tebow has been working on throwing mechanics with former NFL quarterback Chris Weinke at the IMG Academy. Clearly, he remains focused on playing quarterback in the NFL, instead of switching positions like some have previously suggested.
It seems unlikely that Tebow will find even modest interest once he’s released. Several teams that were believed to be potential landing spots have already distanced themselves from the idea, so I guess we’ll have to see if they’re willing to change their minds.
