Mark Sanchez hasn’t been demoted from the Jets’ starting quarterback spot yet. But, oh, if he is….
With the Jets finally hiring a new general manager in John Idzik, speculation has begun about what the team will do at quarterback. Tim Tebow is all but certainly gone, and Greg McIlroy doesn’t look like the quarterback of the future. While the organization may once again roll the dice on Sanchez, the common opinion is that New York has to get someone else soon.
Some people think that may be the Eagles’ Michael Vick, who has a history with some members of the Jets organization. But ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that’s unlikely.
Forget about the idea of Eagles QB Michael Vick following Marty Mornhinweg to Jets. Neither would be interested in the idea of reuniting.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 20, 2013
Another speedy quarterback that doesn’t carry Vick’s price tag could be available, though.
In Seattle, New Jets GM John Idzik was a supporter of QB Tarvaris Jackson, whose price tag fits into what cap-strapped Jets could afford.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 20, 2013
New York has to do something at quarterback, whether it’s finding a magic potion to help Sanchez play well or getting someone new. But if the Jets are trying to win the PR battle this offseason, they may want to shoot higher than Jackson, who for good reason wasn’t a starter last year.
