Per a report from The Pewter Plank’s Josh Hill, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made another splash in free agency by signing former Atlanta Falcon linebacker Curtis Lofton. Lofton, who was drafted out of theUniversityofOklahomaby the Falcons in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft, was widely considered one of the top linebackers in this year’s free agency class. Lofton became a starter his rookie season and has played in every game since then. He has amassed 492 tackles, four sacks, seven forced fumbles, and three interceptions over the course of his four-year career. The Buccaneers’ acquisition of Lofton gives their defense a huge upgrade over the middle, while weakening a division opponent. Lofton’s experience and familiarity with NFC South opponents should immediately pay dividends and improve the team’s dead last rushing defense (30th overall).
