Report: Micah Parsons Blames Dallas Cowboys’ Front Office For Postseason Failure
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons didn’t hold back on his feelings about his team’s leadership this week. Parsons is still wounded from the Cowboys upset by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round in January.

Jerry Jones wants the Dallas Cowboys “all in” for 2024

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was also disappointed after the loss. Per Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones said this week he vowed to go “all in” for the 2024 season. However, Jones didn’t provide any precise details on what he means by going “all in” next season:

“I think we’ll push the hell out of it,” Jones said. “It will be going all in on different people than you’ve done in the past. We’ll be going all in. … I would say that you will see us this coming year not building for the future. That’s the best way I know how to say it. That ought to answer a lot of questions.”

Jones didn’t get into specifics during his nearly half-hour with reporters, but speculation immediately goes to being more aggressive in free agency, something Dallas hasn’t done in over a decade…

“We’ll do things that honor the fact that we didn’t play well against the Packers,” Jones said. “I will do some things differently this year. I’m not for sure what they’re going to be, but I’ll do some things differently.”

When it came to discussing specific changes on the field, Jones said two areas that will be addressed are stopping the run on defense and running the ball better on offense.

Micah Parsons: Cowboys FO didn’t get the 2023 roster right

Parsons wants Jones to take action this offseason. According to Josh Alper with NBC Sports‘ transcription of Parsons’ comments on The Edge podcast, Parsons said the front office didn’t go all in for the 2023 season:

Linebacker Micah Parsons heard what Jones had to say about the team’s approach and said on his The Edge podcast that he hopes the team’s actions back up Jones’ words.

“They’re talking about how we’re going ‘all in’ this year. Man, that’s what I would hope for,” Parsons said. “I’m 24 years old. I’ve been in this league three years and I’ve kinda seen it all. I hope we go all in. I hope that we go out and get the players that we’re missing, because we didn’t do that this year. I hope that we challenge ourselves to become better and become greater for us.”

That has to be a crushing statement from Parsons for the Cowboys front office to hear this offseason. Parsons was generous to point out that the Cowboys only needed to add players to the roster in order to make them a true Super Bowl contender.

Jones failed to get an upgrade at head coach after the season

Jones flubbed an opportunity to land a better head coach than Mike McCarthy after the loss to the Packers this postseason. Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, or Jim Harbaugh would have been an upgrade over their current head coach. McCarthy has a history of postseason mistakes.

Jones made a curious choice on being “all in” for the 2024 season when he retained McCarthy. What in Jones’ recent history of decisions should make Parsons think the Cowboys will be more aggressive in a free agency period where their owner will overpay Dak Prescott?
