Per a report from Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, citing the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will not be will be willing to renegotiate his contract in order to remain with the team. It may be Vick’s intention to force a release since he is due $15.5 million, a number that is highly doubtful the Eagles would pay him. Although it is unlikely any other team would pay Vick anywhere near that amount, if he is released in early February, Vick would be weeks ahead of other players in the free agent market. The early February release is speculation based on the $3 million guaranteed the Eagles would owe him if he was on the roster. Interesting that Vick would refuse to bend a little for the only team that would give him a chance once he re-entered the NFL. Vick signed with the Eagles as a free agent in 2009, and after seeing sparse action in the first year, he had a career year in 2010. Playing 12 games, he completed 62.6% of his passes for 3,018 (then a career high), 21 touchdowns and four interceptions, good for a career-best 100.2 passer rating. The 2011 season showed some regression from his 2010 season, where he threw for a career high 3.303 yards to go with 18 touchdowns, but also had 14 interceptions and his passer rating dipped to 84.9. This season, Vick has struggled with turnovers and injuries behind an injury-riddled offensive line and after suffering a severe concussion, he has missed the last seven games. He is slated to start in the Eagles season finale in what could be a final audition for teams that could be interested in Vick once the season ends.
