Looks like the swole era is over in New England.
The Patriots cut two-time pro-bowl safety Brandon Merriweather among others on Saturday in an attempt to bring the roster down to 53 players.
It’s been highly speculated that the New England Patriots were looking to cut ties with Meriweather since the lock-out ended. The only thing that I can think of that would cause the Patriots to wait until September to make the move is that they were looking for trade partners for the safety.
Meriweather has talent, but he has always taken too many chances and been on the end of some stupid penalties for illegal hits. It just came to a point where the Patriots couldn’t take a chance that Meriweather could cost the team a game.
The Patriots also cut veteran back Sammy Morris and have also reportedly cut WR/KR Brandon Tate.
