After spending the last few years north of the border, Jason Vega is coming home. The Boston Globe reports that the Patriots have agreed to terms with the linebacker/defensive end, who is coming off two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. Joining the Pats will bring Vega back not only to his home country but to his home state, as well. The 25-year-old hails from Brockton, Mass., and played four years at Northeastern, totaling 137 tackles and 14 sacks in 41 collegiate games. Upon his graduation in 2010, Vega spent three weeks on the practice squad for CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats before an injury led to his release. His second attempt at Canadian football proved successful, however, and he racked up 66 tackles and 12 sacks in two seasons for the Bombers. Vega’s agreement comes four days after New England signed defensive tackle Armond Armstead, who also spent last season in the CFL. The Globe reports that the two have agreed to similar three-year contracts, although Armstead’s includes more guaranteed money. Vega must be released by Winnipeg before he can officially sign with the Patriots.
