The NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora is reporting that the Indianapolis Colts will cut injured quarterback Peyton Manning sometime before the NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 22. Meantime, Colts owner Jim Irsay refuses to endorse Manning for next season.

“According to sources who were involved in the Colts’ GM search, the organization was planning to move on from Manning weeks ago, well before this public squabble between the quarterback and his owner,” La Canfora said. “So Friday’s joint statement won’t be changing a thing.”

Irsay responded on Twitter late Saturday night:

  • What a shame Mr. Irsay is doing in Indy. Peyton Manning still has many years to contribute to the orginization and bam off with his head. I love the Colts but I hope Mr. Irsay's plan blows up in his face
  • Hate to disagree, but Peyton doesn't have many years to contribute. I don't think he can contribute to any team even one more year. The smart thing for him to do is to retire gracefully or gracefully agree to take a backup role with a team which would not only lengthen his playing days, but his life as well.
  • I say the "Sleeper" here to land Manning are the Cowboys. I could see Manning playing in Dallas and I'm sure Jerry Jones would pay him well. I say, ..

    1. Dallas
    2. San Fran
    3. Miami
    4. Jets
    5. Washington

Redskins Interested in Peyton Manning If He Becomes Available

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, a person with knowledge of the situation has confirmed that the Redskins would be interested in Colts quarterback Peyton Manning if he becomes available. At this point there are a lot of things to consider before Manning ends up playing in another city besides Indianapolis. “No. 1, is he going to be released? No. 2, is he...

Sibling Rivalry: 10 Reasons Eli is Better than Peyton

Whether he plays another down in the NFL or not, Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts is without a doubt a first ballot Hall of Famer.  His impressive 399 touchdowns, 54,828 passing yards, four league MVP’s and 94.9 career passer rating makes him a shoe in.  Given those stats it would be absurd to come out and say that the younger of the Manning brothers, Eli, is better...

Moments in Time

Colts Authority reader matt_has wrote a piece that offers a different perspective regarding Peyton Manning's future with the Colts. This is another excellent piece we thought readers would enjoy on the front page. Preface: I can see both sides of the Manning/Luck debate, but I expect Manning to be cut. With that expectation in mind, this is primarily a therapeutic release for...

Manning bleeding into Super Bowl Week

Peyton Manning's increasingly thorny relationship with the Indianapolis Colts -- will owner Jim Irsay pay $28 million to retain his injured four-time NFL MVP quarterback? -- threatened on Monday to strip the spotlight completely from Manning's Super Bowl XLVI-playing brother Eli, who arrived in town with the NFC champion New York Giants. That's because Peyton, his status...

Peyton Manning: A New York Jet?

Since the New York Jets collapse in the 2011 regular season, there’s been a lot of finger pointing in the organization as to what went wrong. And a lot of that blame game has fallen onto quarterback Mark Sanchez. Now, regardless of the fact that “anonymous teammates” have ripped on Sanchez for being lazy, many people have thought for a while that Sanchez isn&rsquo...

Peyton Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay insist they are just fine after a week filled with complaints and comments suggesting a rift had developed following one of the most miserable seasons in team history.

Colts Introduce Pagano as Head Coach

On Thursday, amidst the madness of the Manning-Irsay media war, the Indianapolis Colts held an introductory press conference for new head coach, Chuck Pagano. Of the eight possible coaches interviewed, Pagano, the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, was selected to take over the reigns of one the most elite (but recently troubled) franchises in the NFL. “In the end...

Peyton Manning Should Listen To Rob Lowe & Retire, Its Time

Rob Lowe could have jumped the gun when he said Peyton Manning is going to retire in the off-season. I think it is time for the warhorse who has had a great career to hang up his cleats and go out while he is still able to function. Manning and Jim Irsay are even at odds. I know they will tell you they are on the same page, truth be told Manning is clearly upset with the changes...

Irsay, Manning done with spat?

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and quarterback Peyton Manning have talked and made up, at least publicly. After four days of exchanging comments through the media that made the Colts sound like a house of dysfunction, the team released a statement Friday to "dispel any misperception that there might be any hard feelings between us."

Dolphins hire Sherman to run the offense and Coyle to run the D

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the Dolphins have agreed to terms with Mike Sherman as offensive coordinator and Kevin Coyle as defensive coordinator. When Sherman failed to land the Tampa head coaching gig it was pretty clear that he was going to join Miami as the new offensive coordinator. Sherman the former head coach of the Packers who has previously worked with Philbin...

Colts Eye Steelers LB Coach Keith Butler for Defensive Coordinator

Reports differ regarding how certain it is that Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler will be joining the Indianapolis Colts as the team's new defensive coordinator. ESPN's Paul Kuharsky suggests that the deal is all but done, and that Butler merely needs to land in Indianapolis on Tuesday to go over contract details and sign on the dotted line. The NFL's Jason LaCanfora...
