According to the Philadelphia Eagles’ official site, the team is reportedly cutting punter Chas Henry in order to bring back former Pro-Bowler Mat McBriar.
McBriar and Henry had a heated position battle during the preseason, and the decision to keep Henry ultimately came down to his familiarity with place kicker Alex Henery. With Henry’s help, then-rookie Henery, was able to connect on 24 of his 27 field goal attempts—setting a new NFL record for rookie field goal percentage.
I was a bit surprised that the Eagles cut McBriar right before the season, seeing how he looked to be healthy and had the stronger leg. But a strong Week 1 performance against the Cleveland Browns helped Henry earn Punter of the Week honors, putting some of those concerns to rest.
