JaMarcus Russell has been called many things, but "motivated self-starter" has never been one of them. Russell, after all, has become the poster boy for entitled, lazy and overpaid athletes. CBS Sports reported after a recent interview with the former Oakland QB that "(JaMarcus Russell) doesn't exactly have a track record for being either fiscally responsible, good at football, or in shape." Russell also detailed in the interview some of the problems he faced while playing for the Raiders. "In the NFL, my first year, I had to be there at 6:30 before practice and be on the treadmill for an hour," he said. "Then meetings come, I sit down, eat my fruit. We watch film, and maybe I got tired. Coach Flip (quarterback coach John DeFilippo pulled me aside and said, 'What are you doing for night life?' I said, 'Coach, I'm just chilling.' He said, 'I need to get you checked out.' I did the sleep test, and they said I had apnea." Despite the wave of antipathy Russell faces, he is indeed attempting to make a comeback in the NFL. Russell, of course, will have to prove that he can get in NFL shape and that incidents with the law are a thing of the past. But thanks to his salary as a former No. 1 draft pick, Russell reportedly does not have to worry about being broke on the comeback trail. Russell says, in fact, that he is "far from (being broke)."
