After Stevan Ridley had trouble holding onto the ball Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, the New England Patriots turned to running back Shane Vereen for production on the ground. Unfortunately for the Patriots, Vereen, who rushed for 101 yards, broke a small bone in his his wrist on his first play of the game and is scheduled for surgery on Monday that will keep him out for a few weeks, reports Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. Vereen played entire game with injury but experienced numbness afterwards as bone sits on nerve — Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) September 9, 2013 With Vereen out, Ridley, who rushed for 1,263 yards last season, will likely be out of Bill Belichick’s doghouse. The Patriots also have Brandon Bolden, LeGarrette Blount and Leon Washington that can handle the duties on the ground.
