According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers still might re-sign inside linebacker Stevenson Sylvester to replace injured linebacker Larry Foote, who was placed on injured reserve Monday with a torn bicep. Despite signing K Graham, Steelers still might re- sign Stevenson Sylvester to replace Foote. — Gerry Dulac (@gerrydulac) September 9, 2013 Sylvester was released just prior to the fourth preseason game after he was forced to miss the second and third games due to an ankle injury suffered in the preseason opener against the New York Giants. Sylvester, the Steelers fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, has had problems staying healthy during his first three seasons in the league. Last year, the Utah product missed the final three preseason games as well as the first few regular seasons games due to a knee injury suffered during the final days of training camp. The Steelers chose not to restricted tender Sylvester during the offseason but ultimately re-signed him to a one-year deal for the minimum after he received no interest as a free agent. In his first three seasons with the Steelers, Sylvester has yet to play 100 snaps on defense and he only played one snap last year as both Foote and Lawrence Timmons remained healthy and on the field. When Foote left the Sunday season opener against the Tennessee Titans late in the game with his injury, he was replaced by Kion Wilson. The Steelers currently have rookie inside linebackers Vince Williams and Terence Garvin on their 53 man roster right now and the former did not dress for the game Sunday. Signing Sylvester back certainly makes sense as he should be well versed in the defense. If indeed he is to be re-signed, you would have to think the transaction would be completed by Tuesday afternoon. As a side note to all of this, Sylvester worked out for the Detroit Lions on Monday.
